The “hills are alive with the sound of ….money being spent”. It’s time for our annual Garage Sale.  This is the week-end where hundreds of people converge on the neighborhood to get good quality stuff for reasonable prices.

Your Civic Association will do the advertising in the local paper, on the internet and on individual Facebook accounts.  Signs will be put up around the perimeter of the Hills as well.

Current membership is required for a free garage sale permit.  Fill out the enclosed application, and we’ll do the rest.  We’ll provide you with your permit, along with a copy of the map, showing all of the sales in the neighborhood and deliver this packet to your home.

Thursday evening, June 7^th, from 6-9 pm, is an invitation only event to those paid up members, as well as to those garage salers who wish to open up for a sneak preview, buying opportunity.  This is a great way to meet and greet your neighbors.

You MUST have an individual garage sale permit to participate in the area sale.  You can purchase your own permit by visiting the City Clerk’s office, M-F, from 9-4 pm.

There are two methods of preventing sewer overflow into the Rouge River; retention or separation. Retention basins ( 5 have already been built in Dearborn) were proposed as the original solution but recently it has been decided that separation of water and sewer lines will be more appropriate and cost effective. In order to separate the water and sewer lines the streets will need to be dug up, the sewers replaced and the water mains replaced. Three projects are being planned that impact our neighborhood:

1) East of Telegraph the project will start in Jan 2012 and continue into 2013. The streets in this neighborhood are old and in need of repair. This project will yield new water and sewer lines and rebuilt streets for a cost less than the containment option that has been implemented in other locations in the city.

2) Cherry Hill to Wilson is scheduled for 2014

3) West of Telegraph the streets are still in good shape with an estimated life of 7 years since the year they were replaced. The current plan is to target this area for separation at the time the streets are due to be replaced.
